Setting Up Your Facebook Timeline For Your Band or Brand

In case you haven’t heard, Facebook launched the new Timeline for Brand Pages. It’s for all Facebook Pages which includes your band or business page. I set up my GoGirlsMusic.com Facebook Timeline and will show you the set up and how it works. I think it’s pretty slick and worth doing now. As with personal Timeline, you have a grace period to set up and preview. If you do nothing, it will automatically upgrade on March 30.

There are lots of little tips and tricks to optimizing your new Facebook Timeline. My guide will help but of course I’m also available if you’d like me to take care of this for you so you don’t have to spend your valuable time on it.

What’s New:

  • The default landing page will be the Timeline Wall. You cannot set your landing page to a custom Welcome page or the ReverbNation app.
  • The Cover Photo will be a great way to brand your band or business! The dimensions are 851×315 pixels. The minimum width must be 399 pixel.
  • The photo strip (5 thumbnail photos at top of page) is gone.
  • You can “pin” a status update to the top of your page for up to 7 days. This will be extremely valuable when promoting a video, event, product or CD.
  • Fans can now send messages to Page Admins via the Timeline. This will be great as long as it doesn’t turn into a spam-fest

Here is my step-by-step guide, walking you through the new changes. When you first go to your Facebook Page, you will see this message. Click on Preview then take the Tour.

Keep in mind that only Admins can see this until you click on “Publish Now”. You have a grace period until March 30th then all Pages will go to the new Timeline format.

I love how it groups all the recent posts by others on your Page.

It also groups all your Likes together in an easy to see format.

So what to you think? It’s quite simple. Facebook does a great job in explaining it all as you walk through the preview.

Here’s a cool Timeline page to check out from GoGirls band, Mrs. Howl:

If you’re like me and manage other pages, you’ll find this shortcut helpful.
And be advised you cannot use your Timeline Cover image to offer a coupon, deal or promotion.
