Amanda Palmer is my hero. She has also become the biggest hero the independent music world has ever seen. A champion inspiring countless musicians across the globe, screaming out that yes, it can be done. Screw the record labels. You’re no longer needed. It started off as a goal of $100,000 on Kickstarter to raise funds for her new record, art book and tour. In just 30 days (which ended last night) she made history by raising $1,192,793 with a total of 24,883 backers. I’m one of them. I couldn’t resist! I’m sure many industry insiders will be analyzing her widely popular and successful crowd funding campaign for weeks to come.
If you are not familiar with Palmer, she has amassed a strong allegiance of followers from her days in The Dresden Dolls and more recently solo as Amanda Fucking Palmer and the duo Evelyn Evelyn. She has built a strong tribe of 500+K fans through Twitter, holding regular chats.
