Q2: What changes have you made in your Twitter content strategy since the new automation rules in 2018? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/IyB1EmTQJh
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) July 26, 2018
A2: Pretty drastic changes.
❌ Don’t schedule anything
❌ Stopped automated posting via RSS
❌ Stopped automated follow/like tools
✅ Tweet less (quality not quantity)
✅ More video & images
✅ More quality conversations#TwitterSmarter— Dan Knowlton (@dknowlton1) July 26, 2018
[1/2] We’ve been creating and posting a lot lore video content and got frustrated as due to Twitter’s API limits there are no tools that can publish certain length videos in exactly the same way as publishing natively. The creativity of our content also dropped… #TwitterSmarter
— Dan Knowlton (@dknowlton1) July 26, 2018
[2/2] as we got into a pattern of just scheduling stale content that was the same as everyone else. This drastic change gave us our creative mono back and stopped us just coasting along doing the same as everyone else. #TwitterSmarter
— Dan Knowlton (@dknowlton1) July 26, 2018
A2: I've made very few changes. I use @SocialJukebox and @AgoraPulse for my evergreen tweets and they were already spaced out enough (at least 3 days). So no concerns on my end. #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/6XOGvac6As
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) July 26, 2018
A2. Posting more frequently, using more relevant industry keywords and trying out different platforms' paid #advertising options. #TwitterSmarter
— SourceMedia (@SourceMediaCo) July 26, 2018
A2:
• Checking and double checking every tweet to avoid duplicates.
• Being wary of scheduled loops.
• Focussing more on real-time engagement. #TwitterSmarter— Narmadhaa (@s_narmadhaa) July 26, 2018
A2 hmm I’ve used more analytics to see what content and when works best for a clients strategy. I’ve noticed content plays more of a factor than time for some. #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/he6cgztAzB
— Annoyin’ Observer (@SirKingofGifs) July 26, 2018
A2. I turned off automated sharing tools. Example, Quuu. I had it enabled for several accounts and removed it from all but one. #TwitterSmarter
— Sandra Fernandez (@SandraSays) July 26, 2018
A2: I'm responsible for overseeing >500 store-level Twitter accounts. Whilst they're not automated accounts, our plans to have some centralised, semi-automated tweeting for them are on pause. #TwitterSmarter
— Chris Hearn (@cjhearn) July 26, 2018
A2: I haven't changed anything LOL – I never used automation in a way that required me to make changes to my content strategy #TwitterSmarter
— Sabrina Cadini (@SabrinaCadini) July 26, 2018
A2.
– I focus more on providing content of value to my audience & serving my audience
– I automate less and less. The only automation i do is to schedule my FB live show information due to time differences.
– Authentic human interaction & community building#TwitterSmarter https://t.co/Xj1POMrKFi
— Ai Addyson-Zhang, Ph.D Digital Learning Evangelist (@aiaddysonzhang) July 26, 2018
A2: The Twitter changes definitely meant we had to start updating recycled content in @MeetEdgar with fresh copy. #TwitterSmarter
— Express Writers (@ExpWriters) July 26, 2018

— Shruti Deshpande (@shruti12d) July 26, 2018
A2) I think that the automation rules really stopped spammy accounts from getting worse. I don’t think those rules badly affected individuals or brands that already followed good practices. #TwitterSmarter
— Liliana H (@Liliholl) July 26, 2018
A2: I think across the board on social media, quality over quantity is the name of the game. Know your audience, deliver high value, relevant and engaging content, spark the conversation… #TwitterSmarter
— Darcy Schuller (@darcyschuller) July 26, 2018
A2 I think it makes you think about what you're posting more. #TwitterSmarter
— Sarah MacKinlay (@SpaSocialMedia) July 26, 2018
A2 : Good list. Now can I ask, is all this not making engagement better on #Twitter? Personally I found following account that had loads of automated posts was just info overload & I never got to read their own opinion … @MadalynSklar #TwitterSmarter
— Kevin O'Donovan (@Kevin_ODonovan) July 26, 2018
A2: I rarely automate anything on Twitter, spending more time engaging in real conversations, making actual friends, and listening, than I do publishing or curating content. I'm counting on #RonR paying off. #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/tZLXTcENKC
— Stacey DePolo ? (@sdepolo) July 26, 2018
A2: I’ve reduced automation and tried to vary the automated tweets more. For example I tweet me interviewed on other shows and I am going to create multiple podcast links for each platform (eg Apple podcasts, Spotify, Android etc)#TwitterSmarter
— Tim Lewis @ Stoneham Press (@StonehamPress) July 26, 2018
Q3: What impact can applying changes strategically have for your Twitter success? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/9nK0RmVaxi
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) July 26, 2018
A3: Good/bad impact dependant on if they are the right changes.
We’ve seen a drop in volume of reach and engagement since making these drastic changes (as we manually do everything), however, the quality of these two metrics is way higher.
Quality > Quantity#TwitterSmarter
— Dan Knowlton (@dknowlton1) July 26, 2018
A3: Strategy means consistency. And consistency leads to higher credibility and awareness. #TwitterSmarter
— Narmadhaa (@s_narmadhaa) July 26, 2018
A3. Every change is a reminder to take a step back & re-examine your strategy & content. It's good hygiene,@MadalynSklar #TwitterSmarter
— carrie maslen (@carriemaslen) July 26, 2018
A3: When changes come up that impact your strategy, it requires you to reevaluate things.
You have to figure out what's working and what's not. And when you create more of what works, you build your following and see more engagement. #TwitterSmarter
— Express Writers (@ExpWriters) July 26, 2018
A3 having a legit strategy and constantly changing as you learn what works. If posting less works for you then you might as well adjust. Tweeting 20 times can work for one account but doesn’t mean you need to follow. #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/mFTRumK9eG
— Annoyin’ Observer (@SirKingofGifs) July 26, 2018
A3 Better engagement and get closer to achieving set goals..whether it is followers, likes and shares or pure brand building..#TwitterSmarter

— Chaim Shapiro ? Help you MAXIMIZE LinkedIn ? (@ChaimShapiro) July 26, 2018
A3 Twitter analytics are based on the current algorithms of the platform. If you don't tweet according to the changes, the numbers you get won't mean anything or can hurt what you're trying to do. #TwitterSmarter
— Jim Katzaman – Get Debt-Free One Family at a Time (@JKatzaman) July 26, 2018
A3. From a true strategy side, social platform algorithm changes should not affect anything. Remember Strategy is high level. It's just how you employ it tactically. #TwitterSmarter
— J. (yes just the letter) Nolfo-Content Manager ? (@jnolfo) July 26, 2018
A3. #twittersmarter
All changes offer new opportunities.

A3. More views of my video, increased mentions, and increased engagement. I also see more achievement of real conversations and learning. #TwitterSmarter
— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) July 26, 2018
A3: If you adjust to the changes, you can test the features out before everyone else becomes familiar. You don't want to be 'catching up' after everyone else has already figured out the new features. #TwitterSmarter
— ?JMatt (@JMattMke) July 26, 2018
A3
It shows you care about what content you put out there, how often and it means you're building your brand communication strategically – intentionally. #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/PAksvcTiy5— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) July 26, 2018

Q4: How can marketers effectively use Twitter automation since the new rules in 2018? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/jxd81GwWF0
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) July 26, 2018
A4: It may sound scary, but try and move away from automation as much as pos. Rather than automating a bazillion tweets, post a few really creative, amazing tweets. Rather than automating engagement with a bazillion accounts, engage with a few key accounts well #TwitterSmarter
— Dan Knowlton (@dknowlton1) July 26, 2018
A4: Pay close attention to what you're doing. Don't make Twitter a one-way street with useless tweets. You can automate tweets as long as your spread out how often they go out.

A4: vary your automated content so that you are rarely repeating exactly the same tweet. Create multiple quote graphics for the same show links, for example #TwitterSmarter
— Tim Lewis @ Stoneham Press (@StonehamPress) July 26, 2018
A4: I prefer scheduling fewer posts at a time. And refresh tweets with new copy, new creatives, and new information. I've never done loops, and I don't intend to start now either. #TwitterSmarter
— Narmadhaa (@s_narmadhaa) July 26, 2018
A4: I still get huge return from re-posting over-performing tweets (yes..this is done tastefully, not spammy 🙂 ) #twittersmarter
— Elana Leoni (@elanaleoni) July 26, 2018
A4: Make use of automation without getting too carried away. Schedule a few tweets over a shorter time span then revisit. #twittersmarter
— Laura Denny (@ldcreativemedia) July 26, 2018
A4. Segmentation – Focus on your micro niches to address audience needs and tweet content where and to your audience interests, needs, and rapport building. I think you still need fresh content like fresh produce or else it spoils. #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/GJCFAiMRx6
— Dr. Dorrie Cooper (@sittingpretty61) July 26, 2018
A4 Agree with @StonehamPress – varying automated content and must make for a more interesting feed #twittersmarter

A8: Best way to audit your Twitter content performance is through your Twitter analytics. You access them on a browser (not available on mobile) at https://t.co/8WRP5jPRDG. Do this regularly. #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/yVPgeTtDf1

A8: You can audit your content performance on Twitter (and any platform really), but taking a glance at the analytics. Look for what's performing well and stuff that isn't. What are the common variables? Is it timing, graphics, tweet content? #TwitterSmarter
