Please welcome our guest Nancy Rothman of @MeetEdgar. Topic: Keeping Your Twitter Content Fresh. #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/Lcmfd41zJ1
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) August 2, 2018
We invited our friends from Hootsuite to come on the chat and kick it off by answering one pressing question about Twitter marketing.
Ask @hootsuite: Should we have a GIF strategy? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/XJNjfuwlk7
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) August 2, 2018
1|2 Yes, and believe it or not, you probably already have a GIF strategy. Think about it, are there GIFs out there that you wouldn’t share from your account? That’s already the start of a GIF strategy! #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/5T6kesfEzD
— Hootsuite (@hootsuite) August 2, 2018
2|2 To formalize your strategy, especially for a business account, write out some do’s and dont’s for GIF usage.
AKA “No political GIFs” or “If you don’t know the context, don’t use that GIF” or “Owly GIFs only!” ? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/W0lmkx1Xoq
— Hootsuite (@hootsuite) August 2, 2018
Q1: Why is it important to keep your Twitter content ideas fresh? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/vpWauY640K
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) August 2, 2018
A1: The real-time nature of Twitter means something you posted yesterday isn’t necessarily going to make it into your followers feed – mix it up! #TwitterSmarter @MadalynSklar
— MeetEdgar (@MeetEdgar) August 2, 2018
A1: It’s also important to keep your content timely. News from 3 weeks ago won’t get served to your audience again like it would on Facebook #twittersmarter @MadalynSklar
— MeetEdgar (@MeetEdgar) August 2, 2018
A1: Fresh content should be a best practice across your social channels, not just Twitter – but there are definitely nuances to Twitter (see previous answers) @MadalynSklar #twittersmarter #marketsmarter
— MeetEdgar (@MeetEdgar) August 2, 2018
A1: People are looking for great content. Keeping it fresh is important so that people will continue to view what you put out. #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/lHOOFoYwoq
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) August 2, 2018
A1: Just look at your feed—it’s fleeting. Unless we have something fresh and useful, we can’t stop people from scrolling. #TwitterSmarter
— Narmadhaa (@s_narmadhaa) August 2, 2018
A1: No one will want to follow your account and engage with your content if you're posting the same old stuff all the time.
You have to change it up and create content that grabs their attention. #TwitterSmarter
— Express Writers (@ExpWriters) August 2, 2018
A1: There's a lot of content out there and it ages quickly. You want fresh content to stay relevant, be the first to comment on a topic, and be seen as an expert in the field you're in. Fresh doesn't equal hasty though, make sure it's quality work and on brand. #twittersmarter
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) August 2, 2018
A1. Its just like any other social platform: people will get weary of seeing the same things over and over again. That’s why it is good to mix up the strategy a bit. Vary the content across the spectrum – text, pics, links, videos, infographics, etc. #TwitterSmarter
— Gene Petrov // Excited to be going to #Inbound18 (@GenePetrovLMC) August 2, 2018
A1. Ever-changing times call for ever-changing content! Keep things fresh to not only keep people entertained, but also keep your audience enlightened with new concepts that were unfamiliar to them. #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/QjZrE4rY7N

A1: You have to roll with the punches. If your content is stale, people will look right past it and that’s when you get knocked out. You have to ensure we keep our audiences engaged whilst providing them with relevancy and value #TwitterSmarter
— Tamara (@itstamaragt) August 2, 2018
A1 Just as with fruits and vegetables, you need to keep your Twitter content ideas fresh. They keep readers interested and coming back — even for the broccoli. #TwitterSmarter
— Jim Katzaman – Get Debt-Free One Family at a Time (@JKatzaman) August 2, 2018
A1 Twitter is the fastest paced platform out there and users expect up to the moment, relevant content. If you are recycling content, be sure to go through and clear out anything that’s out of date… such as articles titled “The best ______ of 2017” #TwitterSmarter
— Mira Joleigh | Life Coach?Los Angeles (@MiraJoleigh) August 2, 2018
A1: Your content is a living, breathing entity. Every post plays a part in its interaction with your audience. Static content without updates of any kind may be viewed as a "dead” entity – with no life & nothing new to offer #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/DM3RcZStFc
— Eddie Garrison (@EddieGarrison) August 2, 2018
A1.

— Jim Katzaman – Get Debt-Free One Family at a Time (@JKatzaman) August 2, 2018
A2 Your headshot, branding, videos (make some!), your politics (because in 2018, it matters) and your sense of humor all factor in to your “persona.” Some people will love you and others won’t. That’s a GOOD thing! The strongest brands are polarizing! #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/HMbuvt43bb

A3: a professional profile should be of high quality across all touch points. An informative bio, professional imagery, & valuable tweets. #Twittersmarter
— Maria Marchewka (@_MariaMarchewka) August 2, 2018
A3 A professional Twitter profile should look “put together” + complete w/ the same attention to detail you’d put into your wardrobe for an interview or a public speech. I looked to established brands like @ChelseaKrost for comparison as I developed my own profile #TwitterSmarter

A6: Social engagement is a 2-way exchange, put in what you want to get out! Your audience isn’t going to come to you (unless they have a customer service problem ?), make sure you’re providing value and creating conversations with your audience #TwitterSmarter @MadalynSklar
— MeetEdgar (@MeetEdgar) August 2, 2018
A6: Use video in your tweets. I started #VideoReplyDay as a way to encourage people to reply to some of their tweets with a video. It's a game changer. Try it! #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/24ThD57o3a
— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) August 2, 2018
A6: Again, join Twitter chats. It's an opportunity to connect with a lot of new people in a short amount of time.
You also want to add relevant hashtags to your posts, which help you expand your reach. #TwitterSmarter
— Express Writers (@ExpWriters) August 2, 2018
A6: Use conversational video! The #VideoReplyDay community is one of the most engaged I’ve ever seen, but you can use video to reply to anyone and stand out on Twitter. #TwitterSmarterEdgar #TwitterSmarter https://t.co/f21e2vbTcC
— Chris Strub (@ChrisStrub) August 2, 2018
A6: Be around. Reply, and offer thoughtful comments instead of just hitting on the passive like button. Quote retweet other people, tag sources you like and show appreciation without expecting anything in return. #TwitterSmarter
— Narmadhaa (@s_narmadhaa) August 2, 2018
A6: Don’t make it all about you. Share peoples content, comment on things you like, participate in Twitter chats, spark up conversations. The more you engage with others, the more they will engage with you! #TwitterSmarter
— Tamara (@itstamaragt) August 2, 2018
A6: Stand out from sheer “push” content. Ask questions that require in-depth answers beyond yes or no. Use polls to check in with your audience. And offer support to other users without asking for anything in return. #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/9u3V4IHrt1
— Tom Basgil ? (@TomBasgil) August 2, 2018
A6 Increase engagement on Twitter by asking questions and posting “fill in the blank” prompts. You can even create these as GIFs using @canva so they are branded and eye catching! Be sure to use hashtags like #question or #questionoftheday for more visibility. #TwitterSmarter
— Mira Joleigh | Life Coach?Los Angeles (@MiraJoleigh) August 2, 2018
A6: you can increase engagement by asking questions (ideally open-ended so you can get a conversation going). You can also start a poll (it can be as long or short as you’d like)! #TwitterSmarter
— ?JMatt (@JMattMke) August 2, 2018
A6. It’s mentioned again and again, but acknowledge who it is you’d like as your audience. Who are you trying to target through Twitter? Like minded content attracts a like minded audience, and a like minded audience is the secret weapon of the Twittersphere! #TwitterSmarter
— Christopher Tompkins (@chrisgoagency) August 2, 2018
A6: 1. Participate in Twitter Chats.
2. Give advice/suggestions.
3. Respond to tweets.
4. Engage, Engage, Engage!#twittersmarter— The Two Riveras ?? (@TheTwoRiveras) August 2, 2018
A6
I will keep on sharing this thought from @rachelloumiller"Be interested to be interesting" – when you listen, care and learn about others first, it sets the right energy in motion! You have to give before you receive.
And tweet people back, peeps.#TwitterSmarter https://t.co/j8r9I0iEn2
— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) August 2, 2018
A6 Love the asking questions. In addition, know what your audience enjoys and curate that paying particular mind to using appropriate hashtags. Hashtag use alone drives engagement, but it has to be appropriate, purposeful use. #TwitterSmarter
— Sue Duris (@SueDuris) August 2, 2018
A6. Use tools to schedule your tweets.
Cross promotion but make sure it adheres to channel specificity.
Take your engagements and mention and retweet.
Commenting can be short but keep it sweet and informative!

Q7: How can tools help you find the best balance between content creation and engaging your audience? #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/alRgzvxVAP

A7: Use a tool to automate the publishing of day-to-day content, use your time to really engage and create meaningful relationships with people 1:1 #TwitterSmarter @MadalynSklar
— MeetEdgar (@MeetEdgar) August 2, 2018

— Madalyn Sklar ? Digital Marketing Coach (@MadalynSklar) August 2, 2018
A7: Efficiency is important and not needing to reinvent the wheel every time you post something. Tools like @BuzzSumo help suss out top engaging content for a specific topic/kw/post that can help you better understand what that audience wants/likes. #TwitterSmarter
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) August 2, 2018
A7: @hootsuite is great for pushing out content. It saves the time of manually doing so and gives you more time to focus on engaging with that content! #TwitterSmarter
— Tamara (@itstamaragt) August 2, 2018
A7: I know a lot of people fear the term “automated tweets” – but in moderation – they can save you time and avoid you from forgetting to promote specific content. That being said, don’t automate your engagement! Be authentic in your replies! #TwitterSmarter
— ?JMatt (@JMattMke) August 2, 2018
A7: Scheduling tools help forget the pressure of posting, and let us focus on building relationships.
After all, the best thing about social media is the conversations we share—and Twitter chats are the best place to learn by doing. #TwitterSmarter #TwitterSmarterEdgar
— Narmadhaa (@s_narmadhaa) August 2, 2018
A7. Automation tools help to create room in the day to actually engage with people. #TwitterSmarter

A7: Tools save us time because they allow us to schedule content in advance. That then frees up time for other projects and engaging with our audience. #TwitterSmarter
— Express Writers (@ExpWriters) August 2, 2018
A7. I really like Buffer & Hootsuite for scheduling content. I prefer SproutSocial for relationship management (engagement, responses, etc.). However, TweetDeck is my go to tool for "watching" my tweet stream throughout the day. #TwitterSmarter
— Sandra Fernandez (@SandraSays) August 2, 2018
A7. With tools (like @hootsuite) you’re afforded an opportunity to schedule whatever content you’d like for weeks in advance. You can go the route of original content, or you can even schedule retweets. We depend on them for our success! #TwitterSmarter pic.twitter.com/EIaBzkH9qD

A8 for me personally I've found less is more. I still stick to no more than 5-6 posts a day. Again after that law of diminishing returns sets in. Tools to analyze I use – Twitter Analytics, Bitly, Tweriod. Putting out things at the right time is also very impt. #TwitterSmarter
— Sue Duris (@SueDuris) August 2, 2018
